Mosquito "Chilli" Rasbora (Boraras Brigittae)

Chili Rasbora (Boraras brigittae), also known as the Mosquito Rasbora, is a stunning nano fish beloved for its vibrant red coloration and peaceful nature.

• Size: ~0.7 inches (1.8 cm)
• Lifespan: 4–8 years
• Temperament: Peaceful, shy, and social
• Activity Level: Active mid-to-upper level swimmer
• Origin: Blackwater streams of Borneo 

Tank Setup

• Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons (ideal: 10+ gallons for larger groups)
• Substrate: Dark sand or fine gravel
• Decor: Driftwood, leaf litter (e.g., Indian almond leaves), caves, and dense plants like Java moss or Anubias
• Lighting: Low to moderate; floating plants help diffuse light
• Filtration: Gentle flow (sponge filters or low-flow HOB filters)
• Water Changes: 10–15% weekly

• Temperature: 68–82°F (20–28°C)
• pH: 4.0–7.5 (ideal: ~6.0)
• Hardness: 1–10 dKH
• Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm; Nitrate < 20 ppm

🍽️ Diet

• Type: Omnivorous micro-predator
• Staple Foods: Crushed flakes, micro/nano pellets
• Live/Frozen Treats: Baby brine shrimp, daphnia, micro worms, mosquito larvae
• Feeding Frequency: 2–3 small meals daily 

Breeding

• Spawning Type: Egg scatterers
• Setup: Separate breeding tank with soft, acidic water and dense plants
• Trigger: Gradual temperature increase to ~82°F and high-protein diet
• Note: Adults may eat eggs; remove them post-spawning

  • Pygmy Corydoras
  • Dwarf shrimp (e.g., Amano, Cherry)
  • Small tetras (e.g., Ember, Neon)
  • Other peaceful nano fish
• Avoid: Large or aggressive fish (e.g., cichlids, barbs)
